April 2022: When to take a break!

In my opinion, it is good to take a break on lash extension services on occasion to allow for your natural lashes to grow and replenish themselves.

Alternatives to keeping that full lash look during your break are lash lifts or using quality lash strips.

June 2022: The "Prefect Skin Regimen".

So through out my cosmetology and aesthetic career and training, I have acquired extensive knowledge about the hair, the skin and nails. I have also learned a secret!! A dermatologist and owner of a med spa gave our class the generic routine that should work for anyone unless you have a skin disorder, Hormonal Acne, Rosacea etc...

So here it is:

I'm starting off with Night Time: Repair!!

Repair the damage of the day.

1. Double Cleanse: A gentle cleanse, or combination of gentle cleanse and salicylic acid cleaner.

2. Treat with serums: Treat what ever condition your skin has, anti-aging, brighten, etc.

3. Moisturize: You don't need anything fancy but something that will stick and heal the skin through out the night.

Ending up in the Morning: Protect!!

Protect your skin from pollution, UV radiation and the daily stressors in life.

1.  Cleanse: Rinse your face. Unless you are super oily, you only have to cleanse in the AM every other day with soap. If you cleanse too much, you could be over stripping you skin of it's protective barrier.

2. Vitamin C:  It boosts your SPF while brightening and fighting free radicles, all while increasing skin cell turn over.

3. Sunscreen: As I mentioned before, we need to protect our skin from stressors. Sunscreen acts as a shield to defend the skin.

August 2022: Affects of Steam

Steamers are a common tool used in a facial treatment. Many of you have may have a small personal one, but what do they really do?

Mainly it softens the skin and opens pores, which helps in enhancing mask absorption, and extractions. Most estheticians have steamers that come with a O-zone setting. This sounds really cool...and it is!

O-zone basically reduces the amount of bacteria on the skin.

They do have a down side when not used as directed. Your skin really only needs 10-15 minutes of steam. Any more, especially on fair clients, and the skin will become very red. Sensitive clients might also have surface capillaries burst inducing redness and irritation.

Sept 2022: Painful Lash Service?!

Whew... This was painful. It looked painful. Not only for her, I really hate when clients go to a professional, trust them to take care of them, and something like this happens. Be careful on who you pick as your lash tech! Improperly placed lashes can cause so much damage to your eyes. This client went to a nail shop (not saying all are equal), and they 1: Added nail glue to the adhesive and 2: I have know idea what kind of pre-made fan that was or what fan making process they used, but it was not it.

When extensions are placed to close to you lash line, the thinnest skin on the body, it can cause micro tears. Making infection very likely. If this ever happens to you go back and get a removal, or any professional to get them off ASAP!

Sept 2022: What is Peel Season?!

Peel Season time always turns up around September. Estheticians know this time of year very well. Autumn is a great time to do deep exfoliation. It’s not too dry, like the harsh winter months, and the UV levels are lower, making it a great time to do a peel series!!

Peels offer instant results after a single treatment, but the results of a series of peels is even better and long lasting. There are many different peels that do different things. Some breakdown oil, while others stimulate collagen production. A lot of licensed professionals layer them on top of one another to customize a treatment to a specific client's needs.

Some of the benefits of peel treatments are:

  • reduction of fine lines
  • correction of sun damage
  • decrease in the appearance of acne
  • improvement of tone & texture
  • address the issue of hyperpigmentation
  • improve the efficiency of other products

This is the best time of year to recover from all that sun exposure in the summer!

Oct 2022: Sunscreen in the Fall & Winter!? Yes because Pollution?!

The seasons are changing and it’s getting colder. The sun is out less, so why wear sunscreen? And what dose pollution have to with anything?

Sunscreen dose not only defend against UV rays from the sun, but it drastically lowers free radicals on the skin by 50-75%!!

Free Radicals cause aging, cancer, cardiovascular and inflammatory disease. In the skin, it promotes wrinkles, spots and sagging.

Free radicals are caused by UV rays (which is why you need protection from it) but also by pollution which are both present all year round. You are going to need to decrease your exposure in as many ways as you can.

A little tip: Vitamin C topically decreases free radicals. In fact all antioxidants do.

I leave you with this,  wear your sunscreen year round and try to eat a balanced diet to prevent premature aging!
